Benazepril effects on renal function in young rats with nephropathy when reducing proteinuria

Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of benazepril, an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), on renal function while it reduces proteinuria in a young rat with nephropathy.Methods Animal model was made by uninephrectomy and adriamycin (5 mg/kg) injection in SD young rats (one-month-old , weighing 100 g±). After uninephrectomy, the young rats were treated with benazepril 6 mg/(kg·d) for 12 weeks. The proteinuria, the serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen were measured at regular intervals.Results Benazepril group was compared with model group:at 7,9 and 12 weeks, proteinuria was(7.4±4.4)vs (14.4± 1.8), (2.0±1.2)vs (17.5±10.0) and (5.2±3.5)vs (15.2±4.7)mg/24 h respectively, (P0.01); the serum creatinine was (63.8±6.3)μmol/L vs (54.5±6.3)μmol/L in the mid-term of experiment and blood urea nitrogen was (11.1±2.5) mmol/L vs (8.5±1.9) mmol/L at the end of experiment respectively (P0.05).Conclusion These results indicate that benazepril resultes in a increase of the serum creatinine or blood urea nitrogen while it reduces the proteinuria in the animal model made by injecting adriamycin after one week of uninephrectomy in SD young rats.
