Effect of Combined Therapy with Benazepril and Alfacalcidol in Patients with Diabetic Nephropathy

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of combined therapy with Benazepril and Alfacalcidol in patients with diabetic nephropathy.Methods 120 diabetic nephropathy patients in our hospital were enrolled.All patients were randomly divided into three groups.Group A(26 males and 14 females) were treated by Alfacalcidol 0.5 μg per day,Group B(25 males and 15 females) were treated by Benazepril 10~20 mg per day,Group C(24 males and 16 females) were treated by Benazepril 10~20 mg and Alfacalcidol 0.5 μg per day.The blood pressure of all the patients was controlled below 125/75 mm Hg.The serum creatinine(SCr),urea nitrogen(BUN),fasting blood glucose(FBG),potassium(K+),calcium(Ca2+) and 24 h urinary protein were measured before the experiment and 12 weeks later.Results There were no obvious adverse effects during the treatments in all the groups.There were no significant differences in the serum creatinine,urea nitrogen,fasting blood sugar,potassium,calcium among the three groups before the experiment(P0.05).While 24 h urine protein were all significantly decreased(P0.05) in all groups after 12 weeks.Compared to group B(2.66±1.03 g),24 h urine protein in group C(1.94±0.74 g) was significantly decreased(P0.05) after 12 weeks.Compared to group A(2.82±1.09 g),24 h urine protein in group C(1.94±0.74 g) was significantly decreased(P0.05) after 12 weeks too.Conclusion Benazepril and Alfacalcidol can both reduce urine protein excretion in diabetic nephropathy patients.But combination therapy has additive efficacy in reducing urine protein excretion and better renal protective effects.
