Abstract

Objective To evaluate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of simultaneous transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBT) and transurethral resection of prostate(TURP) in treatment of superficial bladder cancer(SBC) with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods The clinical data of 72 patients with SBC and BPH were retrospectively reviewed. All the patients received simultaneous TURBT and TURP.Results All patients were successfully operated,no bladder perforation and transurethral resection syndrome occurred. The follow-up period ranged from 14-54months.Recurrence of bladder cancer occurred in 35 patients after average of 16months,but no bladder neck and prostatic urethra implantation. All of them were treated with TURBT again. Conclusions Our data indicate that simultaneous TURBT and TURP is a safe and effective treatment for old SBC patients with BPH,and is applicable to some old patients with low-stage and low-grade superficial bladder tumors complicated with severe lower urinary tract obstruction.
