Effect analysis of simultaneous transurethral plasma resection of bladder tumor and prostate in treating superficial bladder tumor complicated with benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective To investigate the feasibility and effect of simultaneous transurethral plasma resection of bladder tumor (TURBt) and prostate(TURP) in treating superficial bladder tumor complicated with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). Methods The clinical data from 87 patients, with primary or recurrent bladder tumor complicated with benign prostatic hyperplasia between March 2005 and December 2009 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed.The simultaneous transurethral bipolar plasma resections of bladder tumor (TURBt) and prostate(TURP) had been operated on them. Postoperative follow-up were carried out,the periods of which ranged from 6 months to 2 years. Results All the 87 patients urinated frequently and had no apparent complication after operation. Recurrence developed in 12 patients, which confined to the bladder cavity, prostatic fossa and urethral were not involved. Conclusions Simultaneous TURBt plus TURP is a safe and effective therapy without increasing the risk of tumor recurrence if operated skillfully and with rich experience, therefore, it is deserved to wide application.
