Abstract
Objective To assess the efficacy of mitomycin C(MMC) in Nd∶YAG laser dacryoplasty. Methods Three hundred ninety eight eyes in 308 cases with obstruction of lacrimal passage were randomly divided into MMC group and control group. In MMC group,210 eyes of 158 cases firstly applied 0.2ml MMC for 5min,then filled up antibiotic ointment. In control group,150 cases(188 eyes) filled up only antibiotic ointment without MMC.Results All patients were followed up for 6-36 months. It was found that the cure rate and effective rate of MMC group were 87.1% and 95.7%,and the rates of control group were 78.2% and 83.0% which were less than the rates of MMC group(P0.05).Conclusions Using MMC in YAG laser dacryoplasty can effectively inhibit the scar formation, and provide a higher successful rate of laser dacryoplasty.
