Abstract
Objective:To study the characteristics of quality of life and family function in type 2 diabetic patients with depression.Method:Fifty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and fifty healthy normal controls were assessed with quality of life enjoyment and satisfaction questionnaire(QLESQ),family assessment device(FAD) and Beck depression inventory(BDI).Results:Thirty-eight percent patients(19/50 cases)with type 2 diabetes mellitus suffered from depression.Affective involvement and behavioral control of FAD among type 2 diabetic patients were on the unhealthy area;the QLESQ scores(32.49±5.86) score in patients group with type 2 diabetes mellitus were markedly lower than the normal group(37.76±5.38) score, and there was significant difference between two groups(P0.01).The depression for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was positively correlated with the three dimensions including problem solving, roles and affective involvement(r=0.426,0.339,0.454;P0.05 or P0.01);the QLESQ scores among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was negatively correlated with the two dimensions including roles and behavioral control(r=-0.292,-0.344;P0.01).Conclusion:The diabetic patients with depression have perceived poor quality of life and impairment of family functioning.
