The clinical effect and safety of quetiapine combined with citalopram in the treatment of geriatric depression

Objective To explore the curative effect of quetiapine combined with citalopram in the treatment of geriatric depression.Methods 64 elderly patients with depression were randomly divided into control group and observation group.In the control group,only citalopram was used,while in the observation group,quetiapine combined with citalopram were applied.The effects in both groups were observed and their safety was evaluated.Results After treatment,the scores of Hamilton depression scale(HAMD) and Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA) in the observation group both decreased faster than those in the control group with statistical differences(P0.05).However,the scores of treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) in two groups showed no statistical differences(P0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of geriatric depression,combination of citalopram and quetiapine can obtain a quick effect.It is reliable and safe which is worthy of extension in clinic.
