Abstract

Objective: To observe the postoperative reaction of the elderly's root canal therapy with Cortisomol sealer plus gutta-percha and to compare the reaction with that of ZOE sealer plus gutta-percha. Methods: 140 teeth were randomly divided into 2 groups. All teeth were treated with root canal therapy. After general root canal preparation, both groups were filled with Cortisomal and ZOE respectively. Results: The occurrence rate of no pain, recovering within 2 days and recovering within 7 days were significantly different between the Cortisomol group and the ZOE group(P0.05). The occurrence rate of pain in the Cortisomol group was lower than that of the ZOE group. The time of pain in the Cortisomol group was also shorter than the ZOE group. Conclusion: Root canal treatment applying Cortisomol sealer plus gutta-percha can decrease the rate of pain occurrence distinctly for the elderly.
