Abstract
Objective: To measure the expression of carcinoma-inhibiting protein PTEN and apoptosis inhibition factor Survivin and its significance in human squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The expression and distribution of PTEN and Survivin in the skin lesion and normal skin were detected by immunohistochemical technique streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) in 40 cases of squamous cell carcinoma and 30 normal controls. Results: The expression of PTEN was down-regulated in squamous cell carcinoma (P0.001). The poorer the differentiation, the lower the level of the expression was (P0.001). However, the expression of Survivin was up-regulated (P0.001). The expression of PTEN was negatively correlated with the expression of Survivin (r=-0.896, P0.001). ~Conclusion : The abnormal expression of PTEN and Survivin may contribute to the oncogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma, and the level of PTEN may be a prognostic marker for squamous cell carcinoma.
