Abstract

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is the cause of an economically important swine disease that has been devastating the swine industry since the late 1980s. It is very important to research the molecular biology and the infectious mechanism of PRRSV for the prevention and control of PRRS. In this review, the present advancement in the study on PRRSV was summarized, including the viral pathogenicity, viral molecular biological characteristics, adaptive immune responses to PRRSV and the modulation and immune evasion by PRRSV in order to underpin the knowledge for further probing into this virus.
