Experimental Study on the Anti-liver Fibrosis Effect of Curcumin and Combination of Curcumin and Emodin

Abstract

ObjectiveTo observe the effect of curcumin and combination of curcumin and emodin against liver fibrosis.MethodsModel of liver fibrosis was induced by intraperitoneal injection of dimethylnitrosamine.Four weeks later,rats were divided into 8 groups,each group rats were treated with corresponding drug.The liver function,serum HA,PCIII,LN,TNF-α and Hyp,MDA,SOD in liver tissue were determined.The changes of HE,VG and expression of α-SMA of rat liver were observed with optical microscope.ResultsCurcumin and combination of curcumin and emodin could obviously improve liver functions and decrease relevant indetes of liver fibrosis and the levels of MDA and Hyp.The level of SOD in liver tissue was significantly increased.Pathological results indicated curcumin,combination of curcumin and emodin could lessen hepatic cell necrosis,obviously inhibit hyperplasia of fibrolast and collagen fiber,improve the constitution of hepatic tissue,recover hepatic lobules constitution and reduce fibrous tissue.ConclusionCurcumin and combination of curcumin and emodin are effective in treatment of liver fibrosis.
