Application of Schema Theory in Integrated English Reading Instruction

Schema theory fully explains the process of the psychology in reading.According to the schema theory,reader' s reading and thinking capability can be trained and improved if schema related to the text is stimulated or formed in reader's brain before reading.English teachers should conduct teaching in the light of schema theory,managing to help students activate the schema in brain,leading them to analyze new materials top-down or bottom-up with existing schema,and drawing their concentration not only on new words,phrases and sentences,but also on text structure,rhetoric and background information.Combining teacher's inspiration and student's participation,teacher and student can jointly accomplish teaching task of integrated English,with teaching effect brought into max play.
