Abstract
Objective To assess the therapeutic effect of biofeedback treatment for different types of functional constipation. Methods 30 patients were enlisted to take the biofeedbake training in the clinic.Assessing bowel symptoms, anorectal manometry, checking colonic transit time and electromyography were made before and after the therapy. Results In the patients with outlet obstructive constipation(n=22),the symptoms had improved, the colonic transit times had decreased, the amplitude of belly and anal contractions increased to varied extents, and the relaxation amplitude had reduced. In the patients with outlet obstructive constipation(n=8),the symptoms had improved, the colonic transit time had decreased, the amplitude of belly and anal contractionsl had inceeased, but the relaxation amplitude had reduced only insignificantly.(Conclusion) Biofeedback treatment is effective for different forms of constipation. It can be one of the most important ways to to cure functional constipation.
