Abstract
Objective To study the changes of anorectal motility parameters of functional constipation before and after biofeedback therapy and assess the clinical effects of biofeedback therapy for functional constipation.Methods Forty-two patients were enlisted to take biofeedback training in clinic.Assessing bowel symptoms,anorectal manometry and electromyography were recorded and compared before and after biofeedback therapy.Results After treatment,the symptoms got improved.The rectal volume sensory threshold and the maximal volume of tolerance and the anorectal suppressed reflex threshold were decreased((P)0.01).The rectal static pressure,anus static pressure and anal canal maximal squeeze pressure were increased,but no significant difference compared before and after treatment.The inconsistent movement on pelvic floor muscles and abdominal muscles disappeared.Conclusion Anomalous anorectal motility and inconsistent movements on pelvic floor muscles and abdominal muscles can be found in functional constipational patients.These anomalous parameter can be improved after biofeedback therapy.
