Abstract

ObjectiveTo assess the t herapeutic effect of biofeedback treatment for different types of functional co nstipation.?Methods32 patients were enlisted to take th e biofeedback training in the clinic. Assessing bowel symptoms, checking colonic transit time and electromyography were made before and after the therapy.?ResultsIn the patients with outlet obstructive constipation (n=20), the symptoms got improved, the colonic transit times decreased, the amplitude of belly and anal contractions increased to varied extents, and the re laxation amplitude reduced. In the patients with outlet obstructive constipation (n=12), the symptoms got improved, the colonic transit time decreased, th e amplitude of belly and anal contractionsl increased, but the relaxation ampli tude reduced only insignificantly.?ConclusionBiofeedba ck treatment is effective for different forms of constipation. It can be one of the most important ways to cure functional constipation.
