Abstract

A new method for the determination of trace phenol has been developed. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of phenol on the oxidation reaction of bromocresol green by potassium bromate in H_2SO_4 medium. The optimum condition of the mentioned reaction is investigated in detailed in the paper. The linear range is 0. 1 -50.0μg/ 10ml with the detection limit of 0.01415μg/ml. The detection method is simple and sensitive, and when applied to the detection of waste water the result is also satisfying.
