Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the whole pelvic floor repair system Prolift in elderly women with pelvic organ prolapse. Methods Forty-three elderly female patients were enrolled in this study, who received the surgery of pelvic floor repair and reconstruction due to pelvic organ prolapse from January,2009 to December,2010 in Nanjing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital.Twenty-four cases of pelvic reconstructive surgery used whole pelvic floor repair system Prolift(group A),and 19 cases used traditional repair surgery of anterior and posterior vaginal wall(group B).The general information, perioperative and follow-up data were compared between two groups. Results There were no significant differences between two groups in age, body weight, maternal times, degree of the prolapse of vaginal wall before the operation(P0.05).The duration of operation, blood loss during the operation, the days of indwelling catheter, residual urine after surgery, and duration of hospitalization were similar in two groups(P0.05).During the follow-up period, there were 0 and 3 recurrence cases in group A and B respectively, indicating that the recurrence rate in group A was significantly lower than that in group B(P0.05).There were 3 cases who felt uncomfortable sex life after the operation in group A,compared with 1 case in group B(P0.05).Furthermore,there were 2 cases of patch erosion in group A(8.33%).No injury of rectum, ureter and other surrounding organs or obvious vascular nerve was found in the two groups. Conclusions Prolift system can be used in pelvic floor reconstruction surgery in patients with anterior and posterior vaginal wall prolapse.Prolift system is safe, feasible and with better curative effects than traditional surgical technique.
