A Study on Professional Characteristics of College Counselors

College counselors are the front-line workers for college students' ideological and political education, and the guide and instructor of college students' all-round development. With the deepening of specialization and professionalization, the occupational characteristics of counselors are becoming more apparent. In process of the development of college counselors' specialization and professionalization, we should adhere to the politicization of career goals and cannot deviate from the direction of socialist education; respect the duality of professional identity and implement thedouble promotionpolicy of Ministry of Education; improve continuously such features as the borderless nature of professional contents and synthesis of responsibilities by such ways as detailed division of labor. Counselors should realize the grass-roots nature of professional activities and cannot talk meaninglessly about ideological and political education without students' reality; play the dual roles of teachers and management personnel, grasp correctly the role of rights, duties and obligations; keep adopting new ideas and methods, and strengthen continuously the timeliness and relevance of growth and interaction between professional objects.
