Analysis of HIV infection in 43 heroin addicts

Objective:To investigate HIV infection in heroin addicts and analyze the correlative factor.Methods:HIV antibody detection was conducted in 4481 heroin addicts who were hospitalized in 2005 and 2006.The addicts with positive result filled out HIV/AID Sinfection questionnaire and epidemiology questionnaire.Two questionnaires were reported to superior epidemic prevention department to get callback and reconfirmed.Results:43(0.96% )were reported HIV-positive among 4481 heroin addicts,10(0.42% )in 2005 and 33(1.56% )in 2006(P 〈0.01).They were all injection drug users with improper sexual behavior while 42 shared syringes.Conclusions:Intravenous injection,especially sharing syringes caused HIV rapid transmitting in drug abusers.Improper sexual behavior is the most minatory factor of HIV prevalence by accelerating spread of HIV from drug abusersto comm on group.It's the effective method to avoid the spread of HIV/AIDS,by enhancing the education and behavior intervention in drug addicts(especially the injection drug users),influencing their cognitive and behavioral styles to decline sharing syringes and improper sexual behavior.
