Smoking Status of Medical Workers in Chengdu

Objective To understand the status of smoking and quit smoking among medical workers in Chengdu.Methods In April 5th.,2009,questionnaire survey about the smoking situation,knowledge and attitude related to smoking and the ability to help the patient to quit smoking was conducted in 15 medical and health institutions in Chengdu.The was designed by Ministry of Health,named questionaire on medical personnel in health institutions.Results A total of 1 176 medical workers were investigated,smoking rate was 13.4%,(40.0% for males and 0.5% for females).The doctors investigated were still lack of knowledge about smoking hazards,however most medical workers supported complete tobacco control in public places.Conclusion It is necessiry to conduct health education about tobacco hazards among medical workers and provide trainings on the knowledge and methods of quitting smoking.
