Abstract
Objective To assess the prevalence of smoking, and knowledge, attitude, behavior,as well as ability of smoking control among healthcare workers,to provide baseline data for the establishment of no smoking hospitals..Methods Smoking status, attitude on smoking control to patients and performance on smoking control were investigated by the means of stratified random sampling among the hospital workers. Results 381 medical workers were interviewed in this study, including 249 medical workers and 132 administration workers. The overall smoking rate of workers in medical units was 31.8%.Medical workers' smoking rate was 16.9%.The smoking rate of administration workers and service workers was 59.8%.The smoking rate of male was higher than that of female(45% vs.3.3%),and the smoking rate was decreased with the increasing of educational level. The differences mentioned above all had statistical significance. The awareness rate of Medical workers was also significantly higher than that of administration workers. Conclusion It is necessary to conduct health education about tobacco hazard among healthcare workers and to provide training for the knowledge and methods of smoking quitting on the basis of the actual status of hospital workers.
