Effect of irbesartan on reverse left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with mild-moderate essential hypertension

Abstract
Objective:To observe the effect of irbesartan on reverse left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with mild-moderate essential hypertension.Methods:An auto-control open trial was used in the study,the 83 patients with mild-moderate essential hypertension were treated with irbesartan 150mg/d,and were given with 300mg/d if their blood pressure was not decreased effectively after 4 week until 12 weeks.The blood pressure,echocardiogramphy and drug safety were observed.Results:After 12 weeks treatment the blood pressure significantly decreased(P0.05),the IVST,LVPWT and LVMI significantly decreased,the E/A ratio increased(P0.01 all).Conclusion:Irbesartan is an effective and safe drug for treat essential hypertension and reversed left ventricular hypertrophy.
