Abstract
Objective To study the reversal effect of irbesartan on left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with mild-moderate essential hypertension. Methods A before-after study in the same patients was conducted.83 patients with mild-moderate essential hypertension were treated with irbesartan 150 mg/d,and were given 300 mg/d if their blood pressure was not decreased effectively after 4 weeks for subsequent 8 weeks. The blood pressure, echocardiogram, and drug safety were monitored. Results After 12 weeks treatment the blood pressure was decreased (P0.05),IVST,LVPWT,and LVMI were decreased (P0.01).Conclusions Irbesartan is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of essential hypertension and reversal of left ventricular hypertrophy.
