Expression of survivin in epithelial ovarian cancer and its significance

Objective:To study the relationship between the expression of survivin with the histological type,grade,surgical stage and lymphatic metastasis in epithelial ovarian cancer.Methods:The expression of survivin in 40 case of epithelial ovarian cancers,20 case of benign epithelial ovarian tumors and 20 case of normal ovarian tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry streptomycin-avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex(SABC)method.Results:Survivin was expressed 77.5%(31/40)in epithelial ovarian cancers,10%(2/20)in benign epithelial ovarian tumors and 0%(0/20)in normal ovarian tissues.The expression of survivin was significantly higher in epithelial ovarian cancers than that in benign epithelial ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues(P0.01).The overrexpression of survivin was related to the surgical stage histological grade and lymphatic metastasis,no relationship with the histological type(P0.05).Conclusion:The overexpression of survivin maybe related with the invasion and metastasis in epithelial ovarian cancer.
