OUYANG Xiu,the first person to open up the literary research on The Book of Songs

OUYANG Xiu's the Original Meaning of the Book of Songs first broke a research deadlock on The Book of Songs from the Tang Dynasty. He audaciously refuted The Introduction on The Book of Songs and Mao's and Zhen's falsehood of the talks on The Book of Songs. Then he advanced that it should seek the Songs' meaning in the light of the text and the human feelings and the unity and coherence in writing .So he affirmed the rationality of the sexual passion .His interpretation of obscene songs provided a model for the later generations. OUYANG Xiu's pioneer achievements shouldn't be obliterated on the path of the research on The Book of Songs from the study of Confucian classics to the literature.
