Abstract

Objective To detect the application method and effect of highlight model in health education for elderly patients with hypertension. Methods A total of 100 elderly inpatients with hypertension were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 50 cases in each group. The patients in the control group were subjected to routine health education while their counterparts in the observation group received health education according to the 5 steps of the highlight model.Patients' cognition of hypertension knowledge, compliance with medication, and blood pressure in both groups were investigated before and after health education. Results There were significant differences in the cognition of hypertension knowledge, compliance with medication, and blood pressure between two groups(P0.05 for all). Conclusion The highlight model comes into good effect when applied in health education for elderly hypertension inpatients.Patients' compliance with medication is well enhanced, their blood pressure is better controlled, and quality of life is improved.
