On Han Yu's and Liu Zongyuan's Thoughts and Buddhism

Abstract

This thesis attempts to inquire into the relationship between Han Yu's and Liu Zongyuan's thoughts and Buddhism.Based on Confucianism,Han Yu puts Buddhist elements into Confucianism and breaks new grounds of Confucianism of Song and Ming dynasty;Liu Zongyuan's attitude towards Buddhism is different: he combines Buddhism with Confucianism.These two attitudes constitute two kinds of fundamental modes of the Buddhist influences on the Chinese literary intelligentsia.
