Abstract
Objective:To investigate the frequency of variant aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2) gene and its relation to primary hypertension in Chinese population.Methods:Population based case control study was conducted using PCR RELP techniques to explore the relation between aldosterone synthase gene polymorphism and primary hypertension in 211 subjects from Chinese Han nationality.Results:Both TT and CT were major frequent genotypes. The frequency of allele C was 0.24 and it was significantly lower in Chinese compared with those reported in Caucations (P 0.01 ) and in Japanese (P 0.05 ). There was no significan association between aldosterone synthase gene polymorphism and primary hypertension in the group of 211 Chinese individuals.Conclusion:There is apparent difference in the distribution of C allele frequency of CYP11B2 gene between Chinese Han nationality and other ethnic populations. No significant association is observed for aldosterone synthase allele status and primary hypertension in Chinese Han population.
