Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of esomeprazole-and omeprazole-based triple therapy regimens in the treatment of duodenal ulcer with Helicobacter pylori (Hp)infection. Methods:113 patients with duodenal ulcer(A1) and Hp infection were randomly divided into 2 groups. Esomeprazole group(57cases) treated with esomeprazole(20mg),amoxicillin(1000mg)and clarithromycin(500mg)twice daily for one week, then esomeprazole 20mg once daily for one week.Omeprazole group(56cases) treated with omeprazole(20mg),amoxicillin(1000mg)and clarithromycin(500mg)twice daily for one week, then Omeprazole 20mg once daily for one week. After 4 to 6 weeks, the second endoscopic and Hp examinations were made to evaluate the ulcer healing rate and Hp eradication rate. Results:On the first and second days of medication, the abdominal pain relief rates were 35.1% and 61.4% respectively in esomeprazole group, significantly higher than those in omeprazole group(16.1%and 37.5%,P0.05). Ulcer healing rate were 93.0% in esomeprazole group and 80.4% in omeprazole group(P0.05). Hp eradication rate were 89.5% in esomeprazole group and 80.4% in omeprazole group, showing no significant diferences between the two groups (P0.05). Conclusion:The Esomeprazole has more advantages than the Omeprazole in healing duodenal ulcer and relieving pain.
