Effects of Carbamazepine Serum Drug Concentration on Therapeutic Effectiveness of Patients with Partial Epilepsy

Abstract

Objective: To study the effects of Carbamazepine(CBZ) serum drug concentration on the therapeutic effectiveness of patients with partial epilepsy in order to provide reference basis for relevant therapies.Methods: 124 patients with partial epilepsy were randomly divided into high serum drug concentration group,i.e.the Group A(the carbamazepine serum drug concentration is 9 to 12μg/ml) and low serum drug concentration group,i.e.the Group B(the carbamazepine serum drug concentration is 4 to 8μg/ml) based on the expected control level of serum drug concentration,monitoring for serum drug concentration was periodically performed,and the difference between the patients of the two groups in the aspect of electroencephalograph characteristics and clinical therapeutic effectiveness was analyzed.Results: The increase of carbamazepine serum drug concentration within an effective serum drug concentration range failed to improve clinical therapeutic effectiveness and brought no significant improvement to the control for epileptiform discharge in electroencephalograph,but could result in abnormal background activity.The results of nonlinear dynamic analysis showed that the system stability of electrical activity of brain in the high serum drug concentration group is poor.Conclusions:The carbamazepine serum drug concentration was preferably at the lowest effective concentration level capable of controlling symptoms,and increasing serum drug concentration was not good for patients.
