Abstract
AIM: To investigate the effects and safety of repaglinide on type 2 diabetes mellitus. METHODS: Forty two patients (M 18,F 24;age 59 a± s 11 a)with type 2 diabetes mellitus were treated with repaglinide 0.5 mg, tid, for 12 wk. RESULTS: The fasting blood glucose, 2 h postprandial blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin (GHbA1c) of the patients decreased significantly after repaglinide treatment ( P 0.01). The total effective rates were 55 %, 81 %, and 62 %. Plasma fasting insulin, postprandial insulin, and total cholesterol had not significantly change after repaglinide treatment ( P 0.05). But the body mass index increased mildly and the levels of plasma triglyceride decreased slightly ( P 0.01). The regular blood test, liver functions, and kidney functions were normal before and after the treatment. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that repaglinide can effectively improve the hyperglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. There is no obvious adverse reaction.
