On the Application of Metaphorical Theory in the Lexical Teaching of College English

Abstract

The paper discusses metaphor theory of cognitive linguistics as well as its guidance for English words teaching.The theoretical foundation of metaphor,which Can be applied to vocabulary teaching,is introduced.Some enlightenments about teaching vocabulary in terms of metaphor are presented:attach importance to teaching the dictionary meaning of words as well as the implicit meaning suggested by metaphor.From the viewpoint of cognition,teaching polysemies and the cultural connotation of English words should be taken seriously.
