Abstract
Objective To study serum pepsinogen I(PGI),serum pepsinogen II(PGII)level in patients with gastric cancer before and after treatment. Methods Serum PGI and PGII levels were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 30 cases of healthy controls,41 patients with recurrence gastric cancer, and 126 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy. Results Before operation, the serum levels of PGI and PGII were significantly different between gastric cancer and healthy controls, but there was no difference in patients with different pathological phases.Compared with pre-operation,serum levels of PGI and PGR were different in patients with gastric cancer who underwent either porximal gastrectomy or totatl gastrectomy. Conclusion The determination of serum PGI and PGII was not helpful for evaluating pathological phases of gastric cancer, but can provide important clues in detecting recurrence of gastric cancer.
