A Review of Researches in Urban Poverty in China

With the adjustment of economic structure, the urban poverty came to be a serious problem at the end of the twentith century. Eliminating the urban poverty is one of the contents of our economic development. This paper provides a review on the studies of poverty measurements, situation of urban poverty, the causes of increased urban poverty and the evaluation of policies for poverty reduction. On these bases, the author points out that,in order to alleviate the urban poverty, we must find the ways to deal with the conflict of supply and demand of employment, pay more attention to the people who has a high risk into poverty, take into account the impact of population flow on urban poverty and alert the urbanization of poverty.
