DSA diagnosis and interventional embolization therapy on craniofacial hemangioma and vascular malformation in child

Abstract

Aim To analyze the angiography and therapeutic embolization of the craniofacial cavernous hemangioma in child.Methods Seven cases(4 males and 3 females;age,7~14 years;mean 12.4 years)with cavernous hemangioma of the maxillofacial and postaural region were applied selective angiography of the left and right external carotid artery and ultra-selective arterial embolization with Silk Line by Seldinger's technique through all the feeding arteries,and the vasoganglion of tumors almost disappeared after embolization.Results The accurate rate of selective angiography in craniofacial cavernous hemangioma is 100 percent.All the cases had the feeling of swelling or pain in 48 hours and the lesion region discolored after embolization.In 5 cases,the bodies of tumors became obviously smaller or disappeared;in the other 2 cases,the tumors didn't become smaller,but a follow-up at 6 months showed the tumors were stable or didn't become larger.There were no serious complications in all the 7 cases.Conclusion Angiography is an effective means and reliable basis for diagnosis of the craniofacial hemangioma;and interventional embolization therapy is a safe curative method of it.
