Interventional diagnostic and therapeutic methods for vascular lesion in head-neck

Abstract

Objective To assess the value of interventional diagnostic and therapeutic methods for vascular lesion in head and neck. Methods Thirty-two patients with vascular lesion of head-neck diagnosed and treated by means of Seldinger's technique were retrospectively analyzed, including 7 cases of nasopharynx angiofibromas, 5 of refractory epistaxis, 1 of carotid-cavernous fistulae and 19 of hemangioma. Results [WTBZ]Among the 32 cases, 6 cases of hemangioma did not appear obviously arterial supply, 2 cases demonstrated interal carotid hemangioma, 24 showed obviously arterial supply and treated with interventional embolization successfully. Of 11 cases treated single with intervention embolization, 1 with carotid-cavernous fistulae, 5 with refractory epistaxis and 4 with racemose hemangioma, they were cured. 1 with Ⅲ grade nasopharyngeal angiofibromas party controlled, 13 cases received extra operation. Among the later, 6 of nasopharyngeal angiofibromas had an average bleeding of 260ml, 7 of hemangioma had an average of 150ml. Conclusion Digtal subtraction angiography (DSA) can show clear artery angiography. Intravascular embolization shows an excellent clinic effect on refractory epistaxis of external carotid artery, carotid-cavernous fistulae, racemosem hemangioma. For tumors with rich blood supply, preoperative embolization may reduced operative bleeding efficiently.
