Abstract
Objective To study the value of hemoglobin electrophoresis for diagnostic of thalassemia. Methods 138 samples of thalassemia patients and 69 samples of non thalassemia controls verified by genetic analysis were detected by hemoglobin electrophoresis during January to December of 2008. Results Compared with genetic analysis method, the sensitivity, specificity ,accuracy, positive prediction and negative prediction of hemoglobin electrophoresis for a model thalassemia were 95.0%,91.3%,93.3%,95.0% and 94.0% respectively, and for βmodel thalassemia were 98.3%,95.7%,96.9%,95.0% and 98.5% respectively. Conclusion Hemoglobin electrophoresis is high specific and sensitive for diagnose of thalassemia, and it is a good method in detecting thalassemia.
