Distribution of allergens and its clinical significance for children with allergic rhinitis complicated by bronchial asthma in Haikou Area

Objective To study the distribution of allergens and its clinical characteristics among children with allergic rhinitis complicated by bronchial asthma in Haikou Area.Methods 224 children with allergic rhinitis complicated by bronchial asthma were tested with 14 kinds of international standardized allergens by skin prick test.These allergens were provided by Allergopharma Company in Germany.Results 169 of the 224 children had positive skin test results(90 males and 79 females,mean age = 8.67±1.81 years ).112 children were 3-6 years old and 57 were 7-12 years old.11 children began presenting symptoms in spring,19 in summer, 80 in autumn and 59 in winter.Most of the children with positive results were sensitive to mites and shrimps.They were particularly sensitive to moulds at the same time.The positive rate was higher in preschool children than in school-age children,depending on the season.Conclusions 75.50%of the children with allergic rhinitis complicated by bronchial asthma in Haikou Area have positive results in allergen skin tests.The positive rate is associated with the season and age.The main allergens are shrimps,mites and moulds.Most of the children with positive results are sensitive to two kinds of allergens at the same time.
