Abstract

A Journey to the Immortal,a famous Chinese vernacular fiction,represents the overall appearance of the language used in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. Four frequently used adverbs Ji,Tai,Shen,and Po,are chosen from this novel to make comparison with modern Chinese adverbs. It is concluded that they are different in the use of frequency,meaning,combination,and syntactic functions,etc.
