Abstract

Objective To observe effect and reliability of application of improved central venous catheter drainage system in malignant pleural effusion. Methods Thirty five cases cytologically confirmed malignant pleural effusion were inserted catheter drainage systems in their chest walls and drained pleural effusion and injected drugs to treat pleural effusion. Effect and complications were observed. Results Among 35 cases received this treatment, complete remission(CR)13 cases, partial remission(PR)20 cases and no change(NC) 2 cases, the response rate was 94.3%. The main side effect was catheter blockage. Conclusion The improved central venous catheter drainage system was a micro-trauma, convenient, safe effective way, has low complications and was acceptable.
