Abstract
Early in the 18th and 19th century,westerners had access to the Chinese Taoist classic Lao Zi and Chuang Tzu. However,the elucidation of its aesthetic thought is a matter of the 20th century. American Scholars conducted a series of studies on aesthetic ideology of Taoists in the Pre-Qin period,mainly around the following issues:Taoist aesthetics and romanticism,Unity with the Tao of Taoist aesthetics,concept of God,the Taoist concept of word meaning,aesthetics and its meaning in the process of globalization. Its Tran-disciplinary research methods and comparative perspective between Chinese and the western is different from domestic research.
