Abstract

Superabsorbent based on maize starch was prepared with acrylic as monomers, ammonium ceric nitrate as initiator,N,N'methylene bisacrylamide as crosslinker, using microwave irradiation.Effects of many factors(such as the neutralization of acrylic acid, content of initiator and cross linker, ratios of acrylic acid to maize starch)on the water absorption behavior of the resin were investigated. The optima1synthetic conditions were found through orthogonal experiment as follows:3.0g starch,7.5mL acrvlic acid,18.0mL distilled water,pH 6.5acrylic acid,0.15g ceric ammonium nitrate,2.0mL N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide, reacting for 5min with low fire-power of microwave. The water absorbency of the resin for distilled water was 659.32g/g.
