Abstract

Superabsorbent resin with carboxymethyl cellulose base was prepared using acrylic acid as monomers by microwave irradiation.Effects of many factors(such as the neutralization of acrylic acid, content of initiator and cross linker) on the water absorption behavior of the resin were investigated. The optimal synthetic conditions were as follows,1.00 g carboxymethyl cellulose,6 mL acrylic acid with pH 6.5,10 mL distilled water,0.25 g ammonium ceric nitrate,3 mL N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide with concentration of 1.00 g/L,reacting for 5 min under low fire-power of microwave. The highest water absorbency of the resin for distilled water and 0.9% NaCl solution were 478.2 and 69.5 g/g respectively.
