Abstract
2-Phenyl benzimidazole was synthesized from benzaldehyde and o-phenylene diamine via oxidation in air.The optimal conditions for the reaction were abtained. The structure of the target product was confirmed with melting point test, elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. When the reaction time was three hours, the molar ratio of o-phenylenediamine to benzaldehyde was 1∶2,and the reaction temperature was 44 °C,the yield reached 72.50%.The reaction had the advantage of simple operation and less corrosion.
