Abstract
Benzimidazole was synthesized by the reaction of o-phenylenediamine and benzaldehyde. The effects of catalyst type and dosage, solvent type, reaction temperature and reaction time on the yield of the object product were investigated. When the reaction was carried out at 50℃for 4hwith the molar ratio of o-phenylenediamine to benzaldehyde of 2.5∶1and the mass ratio of catalyst ammonium metavanadate to benzaldehyde of 0.19∶1,the yield of benzimidazole reached as high as 81.3%.
