Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and significance of survivin in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods The expression of survivin was examined in 76 patients with NSCLC and in 12 patients with normal lung tissues nearby by immunohistochemical methods (S-P). Results The positive rate of survivin in NSCLC was 59.2%, and survivin was not expressed at adjacent normal lung tissues. The positive expression of survivin was associated with cell differentiation, recurrence and prognosis (P0.05), but not associated with ages, gender, smoking, histological classification, the tumor size, TNM stages and lymph node involvement (P0.05). Conclusion There is close relationship between survivin and NSCLC; the over-expression of survivin suggests the bad prognosis in NSCLC Survivin gene may be identified as a defining diagnostic marker and a potential therapeutic target in NSCLC.
