Abstract

Objective To investigate the level of plasma brain natriuretic peptide in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) at admission. Analyze the relationship between BNP and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Methods 73 patients with ACS were divided into acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and unstable angina(UA) groups.Centralized measurements of BNP were performed. Correlation between BNP and LVEF or cTnI was analyzed. Results The level of plasma BNP was significantly higher in AMI group than that in other groups (both P0.01), the level of BNP in UA group was significantly higher than that in control group (P0.01).BNP levels were negatively correlated with LVEF, while positively correlated with cTnI in AMI group. Conclusion Plasma BNP level increased significantly in ACS patients at admission. BNP may reflect both left ventricular dysfunction and the area of myocardial necrosis.
