The experience of Lichtenstein's tension free repair for inguinal hernia in 421 adult patients

Objective To summarize the experience of Lichtenstein's procedure in adult patients with inguinal hernia.Methods The clinical data of 421 patients with variant types of inguinal hernia receiving 462 Lichtenstein's tension free repairs from Dec.1996 to Dec.2003 were analyzed retrospectively.Results 93% cases in this group were follow-up(average 4 years).Only one patient recurred.The postoperative pain was mild.Local hematoma and super incision infection occurred in 7 cases and 4 cases respectively. Conclusion Lichtenstein's tension free repair is applicable to variant type of adult patients with inguinal hernia with mild postoperative pain and lower recurrent rate.
