Abstract

Objective: To study the transcription level and expression level of MMP-9 in colorectal cancer and explore its function and the mechanism during the invasion and metastasis. Methods: The quantitative-RT-PCR and immunohistochemical method were employed to determine the transcription level and expression level of MMP-9 in 41 cases of colorectal cancer, including the cancer tissue and the distal cut margin. Results: Both the transcription level and expression level of MMP-9 in the cancer tissue were significantly higher than in the distal normal tissue. And the results were correlated with the invasion depth, lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage. Conclusion: MMP-9 plays an important role in the invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer and is helpful for the judgment of prognosis.
