RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EXPRESSION OF MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASE-9 AND INVASIVE METASTASIS IN COLORECTAL CANCER

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP 9) and invasion, metastasis and prognosis in colorectal cancer. MethodsMMP 9 expression in the colorectal cancer and mucosa adjacent to cancer from 48 cases of colorectal cancer was detected with streptavidin horseradish peroxidase(SP) immunohistochemical method. And the patients was followed up with telephone for 0.5 -2 years. ResultsPositive rate of MMP 9 expression in the colorectal cancer specimens was 87.5 % ,which was significantly higher than that in the adjacent mucosa( 35.4 % )(P 0.05 ). MMP 9 positive expression related closely with differentiation, lymph node metastasis and Dukes staging (P 0.05 ). Liver metastasis after operation was much higher in MMP 9 positive expression patients than that in MMP 9 negative ones. ConclusionMMP 9 plays an important role in invasion,metastasis of colorectal cancer. MMP 9 may be a new target in prevention of the cancer metastasis.
